Not only should performance enhancing drugs be allowed, the pharmaceutical companies will benefit from the branding. Just think "Lance Armstrong - Brought to you by Pfizer".

Genius! That is actually something that you can make a whole sci-fi movie around.

I am not pro-doping. But with that said, what is the difference between getting a bio-chemical advantage over a analog-mechanical (advanced gear and training equipment) advantage?

I would say no doping. Technology can only hurt the competition. Allow doping and athletes will harm themselves looking for the winning edge.

The UCI, the major international governing body for bicycle racing already has a (small) number of restrictions including wheelbase total weight and a restriction that nothing can be added just for aerodynamics, a normal supporting structure can be aerodynamic but nothing can be added. So the precedent for banning "mechanical doping" does exist

Thanks, good point. Of course the ancient Greeks competed naked in most events so there was no advantage that could come from advanced gear.

Interestingly, in some original Olympic competitions there was gear used. There was a race where the athletes ran in hoplite armor so I wonder if anyone cheated and made lightweight armor just for that event and then there was the chariot race which would mean there might have been light chariots made for the event.
